HELTER SKELTER

Dir. Tom Gries | 1976 | USA | 184 min | DVD

Adapted from the book of the same name by Manson Prosecutor Vincent Bugliosi (a work which remains the best-selling true crime book of all time), Helter Skelter provides a concise and at times harrowing overview of the Manson case, and boasts a compelling performance by Steve Railsback as Charlie, who nails the role perfectly. Remade in 2004, Helter Skelter was originally broadcast as a two-part mini-series on American television, before being edited down (and spiced up with some additional nudity and violence) for overseas theatrical release. MUFF will be screening the full 184 minute version, which – although screened on local television back in the late-seventies – has yet to surface on video or DVD in Australia.

Thursday July 15th 9pm Gertrudes.
