THE INCREDIBLE MELTING MAN

Dir. William Sachs | USA | 85 min

An astronaut returns to earth only to find he has been infected by a strange disease that literally melts his skin and body away. The only way he can halt this degeneration is with eating other human beings. Rick Baker provides excellent special effects in a film that had a big influence on our festival director as a kid and also on the recent skin-melting flick “Cabin Fever”. The film has a weird style and direction reminiscent of early Cronenberg’s like “Rabid” or other seventies shockers. Here the apocalypse is entirely of the body and the end scenes of the Incredible Melting Man oozing away in the morning sun are still excellent cinematic moments.
